Neymar Santos, Barcelona’s former key forward, has officially signed a five-year contract with the French football team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a buyout payment of EUR 222 million.
Earlier on Thursday, ESPN FC reported that La Liga had refused to accept the world record-breaking payment from Paris Saint-Germain. However, Spanish sports news outlet Marca later affirmed that La Liga had no legal basis to reject the transfer deal.
The Spanish news site said that PSG and Neymar had asked FIFA to intervene in order to finalize the deal.
The 25-year old Brazilian footballer had already passed an medical examination in Portugal before signing with the new team.
Neymar is expected play his first match with PSG against Amiens SC in a game scheduled for August 5.
