El Othmani Promises 40,000 Jobs for Youth in Public Administration

Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani has detailed his government’s plan to support youth employment.

During the monthly parliamentary session, held on Monday, in which the government chief answered the questions of MP’s, El Othmani announced that the government will create 19,265 jobs for the 2018 budget year.

El Othmani said also that the government will allocate 20,000 teaching contracts for young graduates.

Aside from directly employing young jobs seekers, the government chief affirmed his cabinet is keen on helping small businesses.

To do so, the government will pay for the social security of companies which employ 10 or fewer people. The government will cover those expenses for two years and will exempt employees from income taxes.

El Othmani also announced his government’s professional training programs for youth. The program seeks to help 5,000 young entrepreneurs start their own businesses. Aspiring entrepreneurs will also benefit from government funding providing they prove that their projects are the best.

Ten-thousand BA holders of will also receive a training program.

As Moroccan regions call for larger autonomy vis-à-vis the central government, El Othmani said that the former will have their own employment programs and contracts.

On July 13, an employment program was launched in the regions of Rabat and Souss. Six other regional programs are expected to follow.

Other government promises included boosting cooperation with companies and adapting university and higher education programs with employment needs.

The government said it has the intention to increase the number of students enrolled in scientific and technical majors.
