Egypt's engineer syndicate head, Tareq al-Nabarawy, revealed that Egypt is suffering from the phenomenon illegal construction, describing it as very complex and goes back to many years of neglect, what puts us in a crisis that threatens the lives of many Egyptian citizens.
Al-Nabarawy said, in an exclusive interview with Al Maghrib Today, that the syndicate called the Egyptian parliament for amending the local administration's legislation to deal with this issue, especially with regard to building permits. He pointed out that the legislation includes local administration and its relationship with the Ministry of Housing, adding that the issue of building permits must return to the ministry.
"We have the engineers of the local administrations do not know their subordination to date, whether they are affiliated with the Ministry of Housing or the local administration, he said, adding that this does not make the responsibilities specific and enable us to account for the defaulters.
"If we want to solve this crisis, we start the solution in a specific way, which is to stop connecting of the facilities to the illegal properties, and there must be a strong engineering view of the licensing method," al-Nabarawy stressed.
" In every real estate crisis, everyone accuses the engineers of the local administrations, but I defend them, because the state is not fair to them, their salaries are poor, they work in the worst circumstances, they have no hope in the future, and they do not belong to their places of work because they are deprived of taking up leadership positions, and this is a very serious issue," he indicated.
He added that the real problem is not the intensification of sanctions, but the end of the suffering of the engineers of the local administrations. Al-Nabarawy added that his syndicate strongly supports the improvement of the situation of the engineers of the local administrations and provided the concerned bodies with practical proposals to end their suffering.
He praised the efforts of the engineers in dealing with the crisis of Azarita leaning building.
