Libyan parliamentarian Mohamed Al-Raeed expressed his appreciation to the role performed by the Egyptian government to resolve the Libyan crisis during the current critical period, saying that the Egyptian authorities realize the importance of Libyan stability as a part of Egypt’s national security.
He added, in a statement to “Al Maghrib Today”, that the latest meeting held in Cairo witnessed positive talks, saying that the Egyptian government exerts its efforts to provide the suitable atmosphere to push forward the talks between the different Libyan conflicting parties during the current period.
He stressed that the meeting held in Cairo stressed the need to find mechanisms to get out of the crisis politically according to a specific timetable to work to promote stability in the country in light of the crises facing the Libyan people.
He argued that there are a number of constants that have been agreed upon, most notably Libya's unity, sovereignty, security and safety, the emphasis on the sanctity of Libyan blood, the promotion of national reconciliation and the need to fight armed groups and other extremists.
Regarding the role of Libyan parliament in this regard, the Libyan parliamentarian said that the Libyan House of Representatives will work to form a delegation to engage in direct dialogue with the parties to the Libyan crisis to find a mechanism to contribute to the presidential elections early next year.
He expressed his optimism over the future of the Libyan state in the light of the results of the meeting held in Egypt, saying that the meetings hosted by Egypt will contribute to support the political process through consensus on the formation of a delegation from the Libyan Council of Representatives to discuss what was agreed between the Libyan Armed Forces Chief Marshal Khalifa Hafater and the President of the Libyan Presidential Council Faiz Al Sarraj to discuss the presidential elections next year.
He added that the Egyptian government is keen to support dialogue between the different Libyan parties, saying that the parliament will perform a major role to execute the political agreements that will be conducted during the coming period.
He stressed that they called on the Egyptian side to pressure the presidency of parliament to hold a full session and to form a dialogue committee with the Council of State to amend the political agreement and then work to unify the Central Bank of Libya and the National Oil Corporation and the Investment Corporation to be one word to all.
