Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and his Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took part Sunday at a ceremony at Jinnah Convention Center marking the 70th anniversary of the country's independence.
The Pakistani people stand behind the Armed Forces in the war against terrorism, Hussain said in a statement.
Pakistan's future lies in the implementation of democracy that would guarantee achieving progress, development and prosperity, he added.
He also expressed his condolences to the victims of Quetta's attack in which more than 70 persons were killed in a suicide blast at the Quetta Civil Hospital last Monday.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, he said: "You are not alone and everyone stands by your side."
