The president of the Aswan International Women's Film Festival, Mohamed Abdelkhaliq, revealed the selection of Algerian nationalist Djamila Bouhired, who opposed the French colonial rule of Algeria, to be the guest of honor of the second session which will be held from 20 to 26 February, as well as naming the session with her name.
The journalist, Hassan Abou el-Ela, the director of the festival, said that he met with Jamila at her home in the Algerian capital, and invited her to attend the festival. He said that Bouhired agreed to his invitation, stressing her great love for Egypt and her people. She also expressed her pride in Egypt's support for Algeria's revolution against the French occupation.
Abou el-Ela stressed that the selection of Djamila Bouhired to be a guest of honor because she is a symbol of the struggle of Arab women for freedom, as well as the great prestige she occupies in the hearts of the Egyptian and Arab people.
He pointed out that the management of festival expresses their great thanks to Bouhired's stands and for her acceptance of the invitation to meet Aswan women during the festival period.
