The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has concluded events of the 36th Plantation Week, held under the theme, ‘Together We Plant UAE’, which attracted participation from a wide spectrum of community members and students of both public and private schools in Abu Dhabi.
Plantation Week was a manifestation of Abu Dhabi municipal system’s endeavours to promote partnership with the community with the aim of protecting the infrastructure of parks and landscaped areas, raising public awareness about the importance of preserving the nature and environment, and announcing new achievements in agricultural development, especially with regards to the construction of parks, recreational facilities and landscaped areas.
The concluding stage of the 36th Plantation Week 2016 attracted huge numbers of visitors marking the opening of Mohammed bin Zayed Public Park. Al Musaffah Municipal Centre enriched the events by inviting more than 200 students from Abu Dhabi public and private schools. Events included an operetta delivered by female students of Khalifa School, a variety of workshops for agriculture, reading material about landscaping, handicrafts, drawing and fun games in addition to a photo gallery and equipment exhibition.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality and all municipal centres have distributed thousands of flower and plant seedlings, in addition to publishing thousands of educational and leaflets about the protection of the environment, parks, greens and plants in streets, public facilities as well as open areas.
Plantation Week 2016 was characterised by a series of achievements made by the Municipality, including the opening of a park at Mohammed bin Zayed City designed to the highest standards of safety and costing more than AED 12 million. It spans an area of 4,538 square meters and includes 240 different trees, 63 date trees as well as 597.25 square meters of grassland. The Municipality has fitted the park with an automated irrigation system below ground level and there are many seating and play areas. The park has shaded areas covering 952.2 square meters, two water pumps and irrigation water pumping room.
