Baghdad - KUNA
A total of 18 Iraqis were killed while 44 others were seriously injured as a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden belt in Al-Kathemeyah northern Baghdad early Monday.
A security source at Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) told KUNA that a suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt in Adan Square in Al-Kathemeyah, causing death of 14 civilian workers and employees, while injuring 44 others.
Medics, who quickly arrived at the scene aboard ambulances, transferred the casualties to Al-Kathemeyah Hospital, while police cordoned off the scene.
This incident comes after one day of lifting night-time curfew, enforced in Baghdad in the past 10 years, and after two days of two suicide attacks on commercial shops in the Arab market and a restaurant in New Baghdad, causing death and injury of more than 110 Iraqis.
Meanwhile, two Iraqis were killed, while six others were injured in an explosion early Monday in Al Husseiniya, north-eastern Baghdad.
Police said an explosive device exploded on roadside in Al-Husseiniya close to Al-Noor Mosque, killing two civilians.
