Fayez Al-Sarraj, prime minister designate for the Libyan national unity government, escaped an assassination attempt Friday when his motorcade came under fire on way to Misurata.
According to a well informed source, Sarraj was coming back from Zliten city where he offered condolences over the death of dozens of people killed by a truck bomb targeting a police training centre in the western Libyan city.
Sarraj and his accompanying delegation would return to the Misurata on board of a helicopter, the source said.
Daesh affiliate group claimed responsibility for the attack that struck the al-Jahfal training camp which has been used as a military base during the rule of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Libya has been hit by instability since Gaddafi's overthrow and killing in 2011, and there is concern the terrorist Daesh group is gaining a foothold there.
