Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea has emerged as the top brand in Brazil's PC market, according to local media.
Based on its annual brand survey, the Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo reported that Samsung ranked first, beating its American rivals: Apple Inc. and Dell Inc.
Last year, Apple was the leader, while Samsung and Dell ranked second together.
Samsung's achievement came despite a slump in the local and global PC markets.
The sales of desktops and laptops in Brazil shrank 36 % on-year to around 3 million last year. Market watchers struck a downbeat note on this year's revenue as well, mainly due to the downturn in the global PC market. Nonetheless, Samsung officials said their aggressive marketing has paid off in Brazil.
For instance, they have pushed for the "Blue Medal" campaign using the image of synchronized swimming to publicize the function of linking laptops and smartphones.
Samsung also focused efforts on analyzing changes in the demands of Brazilian consumers and communicating constantly with them.
