Electronics giant Samsung has started a recall of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on Saturday, following reports that batteries in its flagship smartphone were bursting into flames. 
In a rare move for a technology company, Samsung Electronics America said early Saturday it was offering customers the chance to exchange the phone "from today onwards." The company had announced on Friday that it was halting sales of the phone, which features a large display and stylus to facilitate business apps, dpa reported. 
The company said it had "conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue" in the phone, which had been on the US market for two weeks at a price of around 850 dollars. 
According to the company, customers in the US can either receive a new model of their phone in the next week, or exchange it for a Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung says it will cover the difference in cost for customers.
