Petroleum Ministry: Eni operations go according to schedule

The scheduled works and investments of Eni Oil Company are underway according to schedule, Spokesman of Petroleum Ministry Hamdy Abdel Aziz said.

Speaking to MENA, Abdel Aziz said that three wells of Zohr gas field were completely drilled so far, pointing out that drilling of the others is underway.

The estimated production rate of these wells is 7.2 billion cubic feet per day, the spokesman added.

The Zohr gas field is an offshore natural gas field located in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea. The field is located in the Shorouk concession, a concession with an area of 3,765 square kilometers (1,454 sq mi), which was won by Eni in 2013.

The field is estimated to lie in an area of 100 square kilometers and it is located at a depth of 1,450 metres (4,760 ft). The field was discovered in 2015 by the Italian energy company Eni and it is supposed to be the largest ever natural gas find in the Mediterranean Sea surpassing the nearby Leviathan gas field.

The total gas in place of the Zohr gas field is around 850 billion cubic metres (30 trillion cubic feet). Zohr will almost double Egypt's gas reserves.
