Manama - BNA
A delegation from the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), headed by GPIC's President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, took part in the Second Research and Innovation Summit organised by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The GPIC participation came as part of the Company’s bid to promote innovation and enterprise in GCC countries and on getting participants to pay more attention to the issue with increased spending on research and development. This, according to the Company, makes producers strive to achieve technical excellence and build world-class facilities, with a focus on competing internationally.
In a statement, Dr. Jawahery said GPIC, as a founding member of the GPCA, is keen to actively participate in all its events and said the summit was a gathering of prominent regional professionals in the field. He said the event was also an opportunity to take advantage of presence of experts in the field of petrochemicals and chemicals, who spoke about their experiences and shared them with the participants.
He said their presence contributed to creating a rich exchange of views and experiences and knowledge among participants and pointed out that the regional petrochemical sector was becoming increasingly important around the world. He said it is expected the regional sector would account for about 20 per cent of its total global size. He praised the development in the GCC, which he said, came as a result of the interest of these countries in diversifying their economies, and their desire to attract more industrial investments.
GPCA Secretary General Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun said the participation of industry professionals from the region made the summit a huge success. He said the regional petrochemicals and chemicals industry would continue on its path of progress and innovation and promote sustainable growth.
GPCA, formed in 2006, is a dedicated non-profit association serving its members with industry data and information resources. It is the first such association to represent the interests of the petrochemicals and chemicals industries in the Arabian Gulf and it has brought a major dimension to its task by creating both a forum for discussion and a place where like-minded people can meet and share concepts and ideas. Since its inception, GPCA has earned the enviable reputation for steering the regional industries toward a whole new level of cooperation and raising the standard in terms of common ground interests.
Since its launch by the eight leading regional producers of chemicals and petrochemicals, its membership base has continued to grow at the phenomenal rate of 23 per cent per annum. Today, GPCA's full members are the leading regional petrochemicals and chemicals producers accounting for about 95 per cent of the total regional output (by volume). Building on that, GPCA has emerged as the collective voice of the Arabian Gulf petrochemical and chemical industry on the regional and international scenes addressing issues of common interest. Over the years, GPCA has steadily expanded its portfolio of services from networking to include advocacy and content development.
