In her new young adult novel, “Rescuing Oricito” (published by Publishing), Marty Kingsbury, an animal-loving poet and playwright, offers an impactful tale about animal adoption based on her rescue dog’s journey to her home.
“People who have rescued animals are always proud of it,” Kingsbury said. “We often know the backstories of our animals – where they came from and who rescued them.”
Her bicultural adoption tale follows the footsteps of a South American street dog who faces gripping realities that apply to many humans: abandonment, neglect, unwanted pregnancies, hunger and adversaries.
Kingsbury, who blends her expertise in writing, human services and animal activism for the story, said she hopes to raise awareness for street dogs and the rescue effort.
An enchanting narrative that can appeal to people in all walks of life, “Rescuing Oricito” shares insights into survival, loyalty, respect, freedom and the meaning of home.
