In the city of Romeo and Juliet, from June 22nd to September 2nd, love will fill the arena. The six acclaimed operas for the 90th Opera Festival in Verona are: Don Giovanni, Aida, Carmen, Roméo et Juliette, Turandot and Tosca.The Festival will open on June 22nd with a production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni in its absolute original form. Direction of the opera, staging and scene, has been entrusted to Maestro Franco Zeffirelli, and orchestra conduction to Daniel Oren. Beginning June 23rd, Giuseppe Verdi’s classic Aida will come to the Arena, and will stay until the Festival’s closing date. The opera will also be transmitted to the world on the evening of June 23rd, in 3D. Then, on June 30th, it’s Bizet’s Carmen, again with Franco Zeffirelli at the helm and with costumes by Anna Anni. In July, Roméo et Juliette, by Charles Gounod, will go forth on a stage set created by the visionary Francesco Micheli. And on August 4th, Turandot by Giacomo Puccini will follow, under the much-praised direction of Zeffirelli.
