The 18th edition of the European Film Festival opened, on Saturday evening in Tunis. This session which is held till December 7, 2011 is organised at the initiative of the European Commission Delegation and the European Union member countries in Tunisia in collaboration with the Tunisian Culture Ministry. In a welcoming address, Mr.Adrianus Koetsenruijter Head of the European Union Delegation voiced consideration and admiration for the January 14 Revolution, commending on this occasion, the Tunisian people who write today a new page of their history. Some 50 films are to be screened this year during the European Cinema Days in eight great cities of Tunisia, namely La Marsa, Sousse, Sfax, Kairouan, Monastir, Gafsa, Gabes and Sbeitla. The festival will provide the occasion for the professionals and the public to discover the European as well as the Maghrebi feature films, short films and documentaries. Tunisian films are scheduled including the feature films "pourquoi et comment" of Lotfi Dziri, "Loi 76" of Mohamed Ben Attia and the short film "Tiraillement" of Najoua Limam Slama as well as the documentary film "Fallaga 2011" of Rafik Omrani. At the end of the 2011 European Film festival, two prizes will awarded to the best Maghrebi and European films. On the fringes of this festival, round tables, workshops and debates are scheduled with the professionals of the European and the Tunisian cinema.
