Results continue to come easy in the Spanish La Liga for new Valencia coach Nuno Espirito Santo, whose side beat Espanyol 3-1 on Sunday. A close-range finish from Pablo Piatti put them ahead eight minutes in, and second-half strikers from Dani Parejo and Paco Alcacer finished off a Espanyol side, although Sergio Garcia did manage to score a late penalty for the Catalans. Valencia now have seven points and seven goals from their opening three games and are playing with a confidence and fluidity not seen since Unai Emery was in charge.
Jonathas de Jesus scored one and made another as Elche got their first won of the season, 3-2 against Rayo Vallecano. Rayo went ahead through a stunning free-kick from captain Edu Albacar, but Paco Jemez's side pulled level right before the break thanks to an impressive effort from Chelsea loanee Gael Kakuta.
However, a superb solo goal from Jonathas restored Elche's lead and then the scorer turned provider to allow Pedro Mosquera to extend Elche's advantage, which was just as well for the visitors as Alberto Bueno converted a penalty in stoppage time.
Carlos Bacca's first-half penalty and an Alex Vidal tap-in three minutes from time secured Sevilla a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Sunday. Elsewhere, Granada and Villarreal played out a 0-0 draw on Sunday evening.
