FC Twente sounded their Eredivisie title ambitions in emphatic style as they defeated fellow contenders PSV Eindhoven 6-2 at the Phillips Stadion. Willem Janssen scored twice for Steve McClaren's side who completed their remarkable success despite the dismissal of Douglas on 51 minutes. Twente were out of sight by half-time as Ola John, Janssen, Peter Wisgerhof and Luuk de Jong all netted before the break. PSV were given a glimmer of hope when Ola Toivonen scored four minutes after Douglas saw red, but Leroy Fer made it 5-1 on 74 minutes. Toivonen and Janssen bagged their second goals late on as Twente jumped ahead of their rivals into second, just a point behind leaders AZ Alkmaar. Champions Ajax are also right in the title race after a Lorenzo Ebecilio hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 home win over Roda JC. The Amsterdammers, three points off AZ, have reignited their title challenge in recent weeks and their fourth successive victory came via a second-half fightback in which Ebecilio was key. The 20-year-old cancelled out Sanharib Malki's 40th-minute opener on 67 minutes and added two more late on after Vurnon Anita had put Ajax in front after 78 minutes. Feyenoord stayed among the leading pack with a 1-0 win over FC Groningen thanks to Jordy Clasie's goal just before half-time, while Vitesse Arnhem deepened De Graafschap's relegation worries with a routine 2-0 win at the Gelredome. The visitors, who remain second from bottom and in the play-off places, were undone by a goal in each half from Wilfred Bony and Mike Havenaar. Relegation-threatened duo FC Utrecht and NEC Nijmegen played out an uninspiring goalless draw at the Stadion Galgenwaard.
