Twiki site Ramallah – Sona al-Deak A number of Palestinian youths have launched a website that is similar to Facebook, and have called it Twiki. The site is Palestinian owned, managed and oriented. The general supervisor of the site, Mohamed Khader told Arabstoday that the objective behind establishing the site is communication as well as creating job opportunities for the unemployed. He added that all the proceeds from the activities of the site will be used for the care of people with special needs, finding them job opportunities , as well as offering them guidance and advice. He added: “What distinguishes the site is the existence of a group of services for the subscribers, such as listening to music, polls, pictures. In addition, every member will have a number of points that will entitle him in the future to work for the site. Subscribers also can have unlimited number of friends.” Khader also said that during the next few days, the site will launch a messenger service, which will be the first of its kind in the Arab world. The email service will also be available. He continued, saying that the group of expatriate youths who worked on the site wanted to serve their country’s cause, so the result was this social network site. Khader said that his site is superior to Facebook! The general supervisor said that the administrators of Twiki, have decided to contribute the revenues to marginalised groups in the Palestinian community, in addition to the handicapped and those whom are affected by Israeli practices, as a kind of support to their brothers inside the Palestinian homeland. He added, that experts and specialists expect that this site will be hugely popular on the local and international levels. Mohamed Khader is from the city of Nablus in northern West Bank. He is 33 years old and has ambitions that the number of subscribers will reach 10 million.
