At least three people were killed and six injured when an oil tanker caught fire at Pakistan’s Super Highway early Wednesday morning, setting several other cars in its vicinity ablaze.
The dead included a man, a woman and a child. Bodies of all three are charred beyond recognition, police said according to Geo TV.
The oil tanker's tire exploded and fuelled the fire. Other vehicles behind the tanker crashed into it and caught fire as well, including a trawler carrying 15 cars.
The fire resulted in severe traffic jam on the highway, forcing the Motorway police to walk to the site of the incident. The police said a better assessment of the situation would only be possible once they reached the site.
Only one fire brigade managed to reach the site but ran out of water shortly. The fire brigade was able to put out fire from some vehicles.
