Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Saturday vowed to fight crime after three people were shot and killed overnight.

Police said two gunmen stormed into a shop in the major city of Montego Bay and started shooting. Three men inside the shop were shot and pronounced dead after they were sent to hospital.

The gunmen escaped and an investigation is under way.

Holness visited Montego Bay on Saturday.

"I'm saddened by last night's triple murder but we will not cower. We must tackle crime all over Jamaica. Let us collaborate in the fight against crime," the prime minister said on his Facebook page.

Jamaica has one of highest crime rates in the world, according to reports by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. With a population of less than 3 million, the country recorded 1,207 murders last year.
