The death toll rises to 142 in express train derailed in northern Uttar Pradesh state of India, officials said Monday, as rescue operations were declared over.
"142 bodies have been found so far, out of which 110 have been identified," Inspector General of Police, Kanpur, Zaki Ahmad said .
The tragedy occurred when the coaches of the Patna-bound train ran off the rails shortly after 3 am near Pukhrayan station on Sunday, about 60 km from Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh, railway and police officials said.
Railways Minister has ordered an investigation into the crash. Officials said yesterday that a fault in the tracks could have caused the accident.
