Islamic State claims responsibility for Istanbul attack

Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack which killed 39 people at an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Day, euronews reported on Monday.

The terrorist group issued a statement saying that a “soldier of the caliphate struck one of the most famous nightclubs where the Christians celebrate their apostate holiday."

The waterfront Reina nightclub was packed with revelers celebrating the beginning of 2017 when a gunman armed with an assault rifle burst into the venue firing indiscriminately.

At least 25 of the victims are believed to have been foreigners.
