Six suspected militants and a soldier were killed in two separate gunbattles in India-administered Kashmir, officials said Friday.
Four militants and a soldier were killed in a day-long clash that erupted on Thursday morning after troops spotted a group of rebels trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district, local police said.
The LoC divides the disputed region of Kashmir into two parts, one administered by India and the other by Pakistan.
In another gunbattle in north Kashmir on Friday, security forces killed two militants hiding in a house in a residential area in Baramulla district.
