Five militants, including an ISIS leader, have been killed during a special operation held in a suburb of Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, on Saturday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on its website on Sunday.
"Among the neutralized gunmen were Rustam Aselderov, born in 1981, the ringleader of the ISIS group's Vilayat Kavkaz and four gunmen from his inner circle," the FSB said.
The report noted that Aselderov swore allegiance to ISIS group (outlawed in Russia) in 2014, the Russian News Agency (Itar-Tass) reported.
Aselderov and his accomplices were hiding in a single-family home in Makhachkala and refused to surrender.
During the negotiations, the gunmen opened fire on law enforcement officers, which prompted them to storm the building. All militants were eliminated during the operation. There are no casualties among those who took part in the storm and civilians.
During the search of the house, security forces seized automatic firearms, large quantities of ammunition and explosives.
