Three climbers died Wednesday afternoon in an avalanche near the France's oldest ski resort of Chamonix in the Massif of Mont-Blanc of France, BFMTV news channel reported on Thursday.

Two women, a 32-year-old Slovak, an Anglo-Polish, 33, were found lifeless late on Wednesday evening. The body of their guide, a German man was discovered earlier in the day.

They were killed by an avalanche while they were climbing the Mont Maudit, according to the report.

The bodies were discovered buried under 50 cm of snow. They suffered "very important traumatic shock," it added.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the death.
