A fire which broke out overnight in a house in Marcy-L'Etoile, eastern France, killed elderly people, a local daily reported on Friday.

Le Figaro said a 65-year-old man, his wife, 75, and a 95-year-old woman were found dead at their house where "there was a lot of smoke."

The two female victims were dead on their beds while the body of the old man was found near the stairs, it added.

The cause of the fire was not immediately identified. Investigations are ongoing.
