One soldier was killed on Jan. 29 during clashes with militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Sirnak, the Turkish General Staff has announced.

The General Staff released a written statement on Friday, saying that a specialized sergeant soldier was injured during a clash that erupted between security forces and PKK terrorists in the Cudi neighborhood of Cizre on Friday morning.

The statement said the injured soldier was rushed to the hospital, but died there despite efforts to save him.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday at Airport before his departure for Saudi Arabia for an official visit, Davutoglu said the Silopi district of Sirnak has already been "cleared of the PKK street by street."

Cizre and Silopi were put under a round-the-clock curfew on Dec 14, 2015, when the security forces launched a large-scale offensive in those districts to eject PKK militants from urban centers.

Armed clashes have continued between the PKK and security forces in urban areas of the southeastern provinces since the breakdown of a peace process between the PKK and the government last July.
