Amman - Petra
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Saturday called on Knesset members to ease tensions in Jerusalem after Washington and the Jordanian government exerted pressure to calm tensions in the holy city.
On Sunday, the Haaretz daily reported that Netanyahu urged Knesset members to show "responsibility and restraint" around the holy shrines.
In recent days, the Jordanian government has demanded that Israel act to calm the situation in Jerusalem, Haaretz added.
In a telephone conversation Friday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also asked Netanyahu to work to reduce tensions, stop the escalating violence and maintain the status quo in the Al-Haram al-Sharif, the newspaper said.
