Senior US diplomats

India has summoned senior U.S. diplomats to lodge a strong protest over reported claims that America's National Security Agency (NSA) snooped on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2010, highly-placed sources said Wednesday.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry has summoned the U.S. diplomats in the national capital and even sought an assurance from Washington that it won't happen again, the sources said.
According to media reports, the NSA spied on the BJP among six other political parties in 2010.
The media reports cited classified documents leaked by U.S. whistle-blower Edward Snowden, now in Russia.
The BJP was in opposition when the alleged snooping took place.
The claims have surfaced just months before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit the U.S. where he may hold talks with President Barack Obama.
