Tehran - SANA
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the events in Syria are part of a scenario plotted by the enemies as to impose their will and control the region. During his meeting with Foreign Minister of the Lebanese caretaker government Adnan Mansour on Sunday, Ahmadinejad stressed the importance of national unity and understanding as the sole way to overcome the crisis in Syria. He said that violence does not solve any problem, adding that all the Syrian sides should sit at the negotiating table and reach an understanding. For his part, Mansour criticized the decision to send weapons to the sides which are fighting the Syrian state, adding that this procedure will further prolong the crisis. Abdullahian criticizes Western sides\' mistakes in Syria Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Amir Hossein Abdullahian, stressed that Syria has passed the security crisis quite well as only few numbers of terrorists and armed groups are left with the grip being tightened on them. Abdullahian however criticized, in an interview with the Iranian Fars news agency, the sides that are sending weapons to the armed terrorist groups in Syria, saying those are responsible for civilian deaths and instability in the region. He lashed out at those sides for further encouraging the terrorists through sending weapons and ammunition to push terrorist operations towards achieving those sides\' own goals. Abdullahian criticized Britain and France\'s policies towards Syria, saying they have made many strategic mistakes in the region, including Syria. He considered that the latest Western and American inclination towards the need to adopt political mechanisms to solve the crisis in Syria, although late, are of a certain importance. He stressed that the US should stop taking contradictory stances towards the developments in the region and Syria and stop making mistakes of supporting terrorism and the killing of innocent people and the infrastructure destruction in this country. The US should support halting the violence and encourage national dialogue in Syria instead of sending weapons so as the Syrian people can decide their own destiny by themselves, said Abdullahian. He renewed Tehran\'s support for the Syrian people in their approach of resistance.
