Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafi said that the strategic reserve of wheat is enough until April, adding that the quantities increased after recent contracts which included importing 120,000 tons of French wheat, 60,000 tons of Romanian wheat and 60,000 tons of Polish wheat.
The average price is 208.78 dollars per ton, he said, adding that the imports will start early in December and for 10 days.
The ministry contracted to buy 240,000 tons of wheat via international tenders to provide flour to produce subsidized bread in 25,000 bakeries all over Egypt, Hanafi said in a statement on Friday.
A joint committee from the ministries of supply and internal trade, industry and trade along with agriculture scans the imported wheat after arrival in the Egyptian ports to make sure that they are in conformity with contracting conditions and can be used by humans
