Head of the National Audio-Visual Media Council, Abdul Hadi Mahfouz, on Friday indicated that House Speaker, Nabih Berri, whom he visited at Ain-el-Tineh, had said that dialogue paved the way for electing a new president of the republic.
"The concept of the state and clinging to this idea in terms of re-launching the state institutions preoccupy Speaker Berri. He concluded that blocking has repercussions on all levels, especially on the level of the presidency of the republic, the government and the Parliament. He has betted for the past 300 days on the possibility of electing a made-in-Lebanon president. The Lebanese had the opportunity to elect a Lebanese head of state par excellence," he said.
"Speaker Berri wants to reduce tension among Sunnis and Shias through the dialogue between Hezbollah and Future Movement. He considers that this dialogue is franc. He has recommended the concerned parties not to dwell on two issues: the Resistance and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon," he continued, adding that this dialogue made a positive impact among Christians.
"Moreover, Berri considers that a quasi agreement has been reached between the US and Iran, as well as between Iran and Saudi Arabia, noting that Lebanon can benefit from this juncture," he explained.
Separately, Berri met today with MP Ibrahim Kanaan, who told reporters following the meeting that talks touched on the legislative session on March 15.
