The professor of ophthalmology, Dr. Mohamed Tawfiq, revealed to Al Maghrib Today the drug that has been developed in the treatment of retinal diseases. He stressed that detection of retinal diseases by eye examination using different techniques. These techniques are divided into two types, the first one is to evaluate the vision using the vision measurement tests, while the second by examining the blood vessels and tissues of the eye and retina to detect any damage or disease.
"If tests prove that the person is suffering from a disease of retinal diseases such as atrophy of the wet spot associated with age, or impaired vision resulting from the infiltration of the optical spot resulting from diabetes, or visual impairment resulting from the infiltration of the optic spot resulting from a subcutaneous or central retinal vein clot, or impaired vision resulting from the growth of a blood membrane under the optic spot due to severe myopia, these diseases cause weakness, deterioration of the patient's vision and affect the exercise of his life naturally, and may cause loss of sight, he Tawfiq.
He added that these problems treated by "intra-eye injection" using a drug injected into the eye and works to maintain consideration and prevent deterioration and loss. "This drug is "Lucentis", which helps people with retinal diseases stop vision deterioration and protect them from losing their sight," he added.
"It is very important after the injection that the patient takes into account any change in the eye and any change in general after week following the injection," he indicated.
Regarding the number of injections, he said that the number of injections using "Lucentis" and the duration of treatment, vary from patient to patient according to the condition of each patient, adding that they determine whether the patient will need additional injections or not depending on the extent of response to treatment and the extent of changes in vision.
