Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa received this morning the Head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the GCC region jurist Hatem Fouad Ali. The minister and the visiting UN official reviewed aspects of cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the UN Office in combating drugs in compliance with the agreement signed by both parties. The minister asserted that the office visions and directions are in line with the work of the MOI concerning supporting and respecting rights and liberties and implementation of the relevant standards of the UN in law enforcement. The UN official discussed with the Minister of Interior the means of training and skills building in law enforcement bodies to increase awareness about UN standards for criminal justice. He explained that it was agreed with MOI to start immediately a joint training program for implementation of the strategic partnership with the MOI.
