Morocco is among seven countries forming the “International Security Coalition” to fight organized and cross-continental crime, Moroccan news agency (MAP) reported on Sunday.
The coalition will be based in Abu Dhabi was founded by the UAE and France and includes Spain, Italy, Senegal, and Bahrain.
The announcement was made during a meeting held in the presence of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Emirati Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, as well as other ministers of interior and representatives from the remaining six Arab and international countries.
Its purpose is to “develop joint work to combat different forms of organized and cross-continental crimes, and create the means of protection, as well as strengthen the security and stability of member countries in their desire to maintain security and prosperity for their people,” added the same source.
During his opening speech, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed confirmed the UAE’s continuing efforts to combat all types of crime, locally, regionally or internationally. According to the country’s leadership, global security is a joint international responsibility.
He added that any new security challenges require more international co-operation and proper preparation. The Sheik also promoted the transformation of police work from reactive to proactive, with regard to crime prevention.
He stated that the start of a common understanding was witnessed today around the establishment of an international security coalition between friendly countries, connected by similar challenges, and embodied in their sincere intention to address these dangers.
“We are going forward, to be in a position of power and constant advancement over the powers of crime and evil, no matter how far we go,” Sheikh Saif explained. “We will work together to widen this coalition and establish its foundations to arrive at the noble ends that it was made for.” The Sheik stipulated that for each leader in the coalition, there are also “cultural and national goals” to be considered, “so it can become an international security force that attracts all those who strive for more security and stability,” Sheikh Saif concluded.
