Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, stressed that maritime transport in Dubai is witnessing major international development, while highlighting the fact that the UAE’s maritime transport sector is considered the hub of international maritime trade in the Arab Gulf and West-Asia in terms of port capacity and development.
During his speech on Dubai’s ranking as the most competitive and attractive maritime hub in the Arab region and fifth worldwide, as part of the results of an international report by Menon Economics, he stated that Dubai has managed to reach a prominent global position in the field of international maritime transport.
He expressed his gratitude to Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for supporting the efforts to promote the UAE’s position as a high-level international maritime centre.
"The maritime sector is gaining significant local economic importance as one of the main engines of the national economy, and a strong pillar to achieve the ambitious future aspirations of the UAE’s overall economic development. The local marine industry is comprehensive and diversified as it embraces a wide portfolio of vital marine sectors, including port operations, marine engineering, entertainment services and marine support," he added.
He further added that the results of the report confirm the importance of marine activities in supporting the UAE-led growth and renaissance of the emirate, and its pioneering position as an ideal global destination for business and investment, especially as Expo 2020 Dubai will be held for the first time in the Middle East.
