A young man from Hebron town al-Samu was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after he was convicted of killing his grandmother, public prosecutors said Tuesday. The man, referred to only as A.K., was found by Hebron criminal court to have carried his 90-year-old grandmother from her bed at around midnight on March 2, 2010. His grandmother woke up and believed he was carrying her to the toilet as usual. However the man carried her 20-meters from the house and threw her into a water well, the statement from public prosecutors said. After the elderly woman was reported missing, the family was interrogated and the grandson confessed to the crime, it said. Prosecutors said the man was motivated by revenge against his family, who had confiscated his passport to prevent him from traveling to Jordan. He was convicted of murder with intent according to the Palestinian penal code article 326, and sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor.
