Archaeological inspector arrested over bribery charges

An archaeological inspector has been arrested over bribery charges.

The official received a total of 1.150 million pounds worth of bribes from a person who illegally seized 61 feddans owned by the General Authority for Agrarian Reform.

The official received the bribe to exclude the piece of land - estimated to cost 280 million pounds - from the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities.

The official was also paid to issue a report indicating that the piece of land is free of any archaeological evidence.

The two men were referred to the prosecution and will be remanded in custody for four days.
