The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation has donated 1,000 cars to victims of a 2009 flood in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, that claimed 127 lives.The foundation is “committed to any charitable and humanitarian cause in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal said at a ceremony in Jeddah honouring the victims on Monday. The foundation, with other charitable organizations, is helping flood victims rebuild their homes and said it has provided up to 10,000 household relief items.“The people of Jeddah are very dear to our hearts, and their support” by the foundation “is a duty,” the prince said. The Saudi Civil Defense Department estimated damage from the 2009 flood at SR2bn. In April, the Interior Ministry said more than 300 people and 30 companies were being investigated as part of a probe into the alleged embezzlement of funds set aside for Jeddah water projects.
