Four people were killed and three others severely wounded in a major road accident in Oman’s southern region of Dhofar on Tuesday. Three trucks and a car were involved in the tragedy that took place in Yasmin, police said on Wednesday. All four vehicles were badly damaged. A spokesman for the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the accident was triggered by a truck that broke down while it was coming down a slope and had to stop. Another truck hit it from behind and crashed through the road divider before colliding with a third truck and a car on the opposite side. The second truck then fell into a valley and caught fire. Rescue teams put out of the fire, extricated the bodies of the victims, all Omanis, from the vehicles and rushed the injured to the hospital. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard arrested 22 infiltrators who were attempting to enter Oman in a boat off the Shinas coast. The intruders, all Asians, were taken to the Shinas police station and their boat confiscated. In a similar incident in Dhofar, 14 people of Arab and African nationalities were caught as they tried to sneak into the country.
