The empowerment of women is in fact the empowerment of humanity, said Head of Egypt's National Council for Women (NCW) Mevat Tallawi.
Leading the Egyptian delegation to the proceedings of the 59th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, Tallawi said that there are new challenges which appeared in a number of Arab societies, including terrorism and extremist thought.
Women and children were on the forefront of the victims of armed conflicts, she said, adding that women in the countries which face terrorism are in dire need of international support.
She, meanwhile, said that Egypt's Constitution, which was issued in 2014, gave women unprecedented gains, which ensure attaining quality in the various economic, social, cultural and political spheres.
