At least 11 policemen were killed in two separate incidents of violence in southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces of Afghanistan, said officials on Monday.
The spokesman of Kandahar governor, Samim Khplawak told media that an armed clash erupted among policemen in Maiwand district early on Monday.
A delegation was sent in to the area that confirmed killing of at least seven security personnel in the gunfire.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred in Koka Dasht locality of Maiwand where two policemen in connivance with militants opened indiscriminate fire on their colleagues.
Moreover, at least four policemen were killed when Taliban rebels stormed a security check post in Herat province. The provincial council head, Kamal Alizai while confirming the casualties said that the tragic incident took place in Chasht Sharif district, accusing Taliban rebels for the attack.
Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks since January 1st following the withdrawal of NATO/ISAF forces from Afghanistan.
