A group of intellectuals organized a demonstration in central the Turkish capital Ankara to protest against the decision of the government to launch arrest campaigns against the intellectuals who signed a statement demanding a halt to military operations against the Kurd people in south eastern Turkey.

The Turkish security forces nabbed four academicians for not obeying the instructions.

The demonstrations were dispersed by the police forces by using water canons and tear gas.
