Bahrain has lined up a string of industrial projects under the Government Action Plan (2015-2018). Businessman Khalid Rashid Al-Amin underlined the crucial importance of embarking on a comprehensive strategy to meet Bahrain’s food needs.

In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), he announced the start of work in August on a food grain factory which would provide up to 80 jobs for citizens. "Sri Lankan and Indian businessmen will take part in the project, along with Bahraini investors who will detain 60 per cent (60%) of the stakes", he said.

The factory will produce 200 tonnes of natural grains during the first eight months – 20% will go to the local market and the remaining 80% will be exported. Sri Lankan and Swiss business will own 15% of the shares while Indian investors will detain 10% of the stakes. The $12 million-factory is expected to start producing and exporting late 2018.
