His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces has commended the efforts being exerted by HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah to preserve the historic and heritage landmarks of the Emirate of Sharjah. The remark was made during the tour of Sheikh Mohamed to Old Al Khan district in Sharjah, one of the oldest historic districts in the Emirate of Sharjah. The Emirate is currently face-lifting the district to preserve the historic site. Sheikh Mohamed said the valuable and continuous efforts of Sheikh Sultan have so far contributed to preserving the historic landmarks linked to the identity and culture of the community. He noted that the antiquities and ancient sites were part of memory of the community that should be protected and highlighted to introduce them to coming generations. The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince was briefed during the tour about the face-lifting and renovation efforts to preserve the historic and heritage identity of the district. The ancient houses and mosques, which were constructed with coral stone, plaster and clay, are currently being renovated to preserve them. The Bait Al Tawawesha and Berzat Al Khan are among the important landmarks in the district. There are also the mosques and forts in the district. Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied during the tour by HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and a number of senior officials.
