Minister under attack following rape of 3-year-old at a day care centre
Recently appointed Secretary General of the Tunisian Congress for the Republic (CPR), Imad Aldaimi, has called for Solidarity with the Minister of Women and Family Affairs, Sihem Badi.
The call comes in the wake of widespread outrage after the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in a Tunisian day care centre. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs has been accused of inadequately monitoring children’s facilities and has been blamed for the incident.
A campaign has begun calling for the resignation of Badi in the midst of her apparent failings. Dozens of angry Tunisians have been protesting against the minister, in what Aldaimi branded a “systematic campaign.”
Aldaimi stated that the CPR would launch their own campaign to support the minister.
It has been reported that the raped child’s mother denied doctors from carrying out a forensic medical exam on the child, which would clarify any abuse.
A series of recent rape cases of children and women have been widely reported in the Tunisian media, and have caused great concern among the public prompting anger directed at government failings.
In recent news, a married man in his thirties was arrested after sexually harassing a nine-year-old girl in the area of Nabeul. And a woman in her sixties has died after a being raped by three young men who were under the influence of narcotics.
