The works of Moroccan photographer and videographer Leila Alaoui, who died during the terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou in January 2016, will be exhibited in the alleys of Mahaj Ryad from June 8 to 30 in Rabat.

Under the title “In the footsteps of Leila Alaoui”, the event is organized by the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) in partnership with the Leila Alaoui Foundation.

The exhibition will allow the general public to discover 40 photos and texts by the late Moroccan artist, explained the organizers, adding that “her exceptional career as an artist and activist for justice and fraternity” needs to be appreciated in her home country.

“The exhibition aspires to remind the public that hatred is powerless in the face of Moroccan values of living together,” highlighted the same source.

Born in 1982 in Paris, Alaoui studied photography at the University of New York City. Her work explored identity building, cultural diversity, and migration in the Mediterranean.

She used photography and video art to express social realities through a visual language understood by all eyes.

He work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 2009 and her photographs have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines.
