International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde has lauded the Algerian economy during a visit to the North African country.
Lagarde heralded Algeria’s “strong economy” in the face
of economic problems sweeping the region.
“Despite the difficult external environment, growth is expected to remain solid, between 3-3.5 percent over the next two years,” she said in a statement.
The IMF chief pointed to “good management” of the economy for Algeria’s success.
Lagarde also underlined the importance of the country’s fuel sector for providing job opportunities and resolving growing unemployment.
“Algeria has a significant growth potential, but faces a number of challenges - namely high inflation and unemployment, particularly among the young and women,” the French politician and economic leader said.
