Cairo - Akram Ali
The secretary General of the Freedom and Justice party, Katatni
The secretary General of the Freedom and Justice party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, stated “The party’s position is fixed concerning holding the presidential elections before June 30 2012 ,” to guarantee
the transfer of power to a civil president, elected by the people.
Katatni said in a press statement, copied to ‘Arabstoday’, that the party believes that procedures of making the constitution through electing a constituent assembly, following the Parliamentary and Shura Council elections, will not impede the launch of the presidential elections. He noted that the party is committed to the timetable agreed upon by political powers, saying that any deviation from it would lead to chaos.
This came in response to the calls of some political powers to expedite the presidential elections to be held on January 25 2012, to have the results announced February 2, in the memory of the camel battle, and end up having the new president swear-in on February 11, memory of the stepping down of Mubarak.
